ASTR 1000–Survey of Astronomy (Spring 2022, 2021)

The purpose of this course is to learn a little bit about the major areas of astronomy. This covers time from the big bang past solar system formation and size scales from neutron stars to galaxy clusters.

PHYS 7501–Particles and Nuclei I (Fall 2021, 2019, 2017)

The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of major topics in low-energy nuclear physics, aimed at the beginning graduate level. Topics covered in this course include basic nuclear properties, radioactive decay, nuclear structure, nuclear reactions, nuclear astrophysics, radiation detection, and nuclear applications.

ASTR 4201–Stellar Astrophysics and Radiation (Fall 2020)

The purpose of this course is to learn the basic astrophysics of stars. This includes covering the relevant aspects of electromagnetism, gravity, the interaction of radiation with matter, heat transfer, atomic physics, nuclear physics, and stellar evolution.

PHYS 2001–Introduction to Physics (Spring 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017)

The purpose of this course is to provide a first introduction to physics at the college level. Topics covered in this course include the mechanics of solids and liquids, oscillations, heat, and thermodynamics. Mathematical techniques will be limited to basic algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.

PHYS 4031/5031–Electricity & Magnetism I (Fall 2018)

The purpose of this course is to cover the basics of electrostatics and magnetostatics. Topics discussed in this course include vector calculus and electric and magnetic fields in vaccum and in media. Mathematical methods in physics will be introduced as needed.
