Taking the Temperature (T3):
Workshop on Statistical Nuclear Physics
in Astrophysics and Applications

August 14-17 2023, Athens OH

Untitled Document

ABOUT

Statistical nuclear physics has been experiencing a resurgence in recent years due to its importance in practical calculations of reaction cross sections in different areas of basic and applied nuclear physics. It is widely used in calculation of capture reaction rates (r-, i-, p-, and s- processes) in nuclear astrophysics, isotope production calculations, and the evaluation of reaction cross sections for the ENDF nuclear data base, which is an indispensable input for the simulation of nuclear processes in different areas of nuclear technology. As such, the time is ripe to “take the temperature” of the field of statistical nuclear physics to share recent advances and promising opportunities. The specific topics of the workshop will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Statistical model in nuclear astrophysics (r-, i-, p-, and s- processes nucleosynthesis)
  • Statistical model in nuclear data evaluations
  • Statistical model in isotope production and fission studies
  • Statistical model in nuclear interrogation modeling
  • Experimental and theoretical developments of statistical model ingredients: level density, gamma- strength functions,
    optical model parameters
  • Limits of statistical model, connections to other models, such as direct and pre-equilibrium ones
