Background Information

Hans Bethe and Carl von Weizsäcker independently proposed the CNO cycle. Bethe's paper is on this topic is: Energy Production In Stars, H. A. Bethe, Phys. Rev. 55, 434 (1939). Another key contribution of Bethe to this field was the theoretical calculation of the fusion reaction p+p -> 2H + e +v. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1967, "for his contributions to the theory of nuclear reactions, especially his discoveries concerning the energy production in stars."
